Over 40,000 Attending the 2024 White House Easter Egg Roll, Which Will Include Two Performances of the Musical Adaptation of Reynolds’ Books The Dot, Ish & Sky Color
On Monday, April 1, New York Times #1 best-selling author/illustrator Peter H. Reynolds will make an appearance on the lawn of the White House, where he will be performing as narrator of the TheaterWorksUSA production of DOT DOT DOT: A New Musical - a musical adaptation of three of his books about creativity, The Dot, Ish and Sky Color published by Candlewick Press/Walker Books, also known as the Creatrilogy.
Performances of the show, featuring Reynolds and the musical’s talented young actors, are part of the annual White House Easter Egg Roll, a tradition dating back to 1878 when President Rutherford B. Hayes opened the White House lawn to children after they were kicked off the grounds of the U.S. Capitol.
Reynolds shares, “To have my books turned into a musical was a dream come true. And now to have DOT DOT DOT: A New Musical performed on the White House lawn is truly amazing. Purposeful creativity can fuel positive civic change, so sharing the messages in my Creatriology series at the White House is especially meaningful.”
This will be the third Easter egg roll hosted by President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden, who teaches English and writing at a northern Virginia community college. A teacher for more than 30 years, the First Lady is continuing her theme of “EGGucation” for the event, transforming the South Lawn and Ellipse into a school community, full of fun educational activities for children of all ages to enjoy. In total, approximately 40,000 people will take part in this year’s Easter “EGGucation” Roll, including thousands of military and veteran families, caregivers, and survivors. Tickets for the general public were distributed to guests from all across the country through an online public lottery.
DOT DOT DOT: A New Musical was adapted from Reynolds’ best-selling Creatrilogy series (The Dot, Ish, Sky Color) by Composers Keelay Gipson and Sam Salmond and celebrates the power of originality, self-expression, and opening our eyes to look beyond the expected. Produced by TheaterWorksUSA, the show is now touring the U.S., including Reynolds’ own backyard at the Greater Boston Stage Company on Saturday April 13, 2024.
