TLC-to-Go Programs
If you’re not able to travel to our TLC Studios PD facility just outside Boston, we can can come to you and your school/district! Our customized programs support SEL, creativity, STEAM, digital storytelling and career exploration in the elementary and middle school years, and leverage the stories in Peter H. Reynolds’ books as scaffolding.
Peter’s books focus on themes like resilience, self-confidence, voice, connection, individuality, and the joy of words, and serve as a conduit for educators and learners to explore creative self-expression, whether that be through technology, engineering, writing, or art.
We customize programs to meet your specific needs and target areas including:
STEM/STEAM • SEL • Computational Thinking • CREATIVE Problem Solving • Student Voice • INNOVATION
Professional Development
Our team will work with you to customize and co-design professional development engagements that can be delivered bite-sized (1.5 hours), half/full day, or even as a week-long engagement.
Our hands-on workshops incorporate many of the research-validated tools and services provided by FableVision/ReynoldsTLC. Below you’ll find a sampling of our PD offerings. If you’re interested in a program, mailto: info@reynoldstlc.org
SEL/Creativity & Picture Books
Discover how to use Peter H. Reynolds’ books to build social-emotional learning (SEL) skills and learn the principles of a creative classroom. Each book has a special message that can help us think about, talk about, and practice skills like self-awareness, resilience, and creativity. Educators will energize their classrooms with stories and activities that bring out the best in everyone.
Igniting the Creative Spark
This experience is based on Peter H. Reynolds' Creatrilogy of books, which foster creative mindsets and transform the classroom with research-backed principles. We define and highlight the importance of creativity, assess our own creative abilities, and explore how to apply creativity in the classroom. Teachers will leave inspired, knowing that creativity is an essential skill that they can infuse into their classrooms.
Creative Problem Solving
The most challenging problems in life don't have clear answers and require new thinking. The Creative Problem Solving (CPS) process helps us face challenges productively. In this workshop, participants learn CPS, creative skills, and problem-solving tools. Challenges are generated and solved together, teaching innovation principles. Educators and their students can apply what they learn to any problems they face in organizations, teams, or even at home.
1,2,3: Creativity and Math
Math is often seen as strict, dull, and uncreative. However, great mathematicians know they need to think flexibly, see things differently, visualize richly, and imagine alternatives in order to solve a mathematical problem. This session will help teachers make connections between creativity and math that will improve student engagement and build essential critical thinking skills.
Spiral-Up: Creative Lesson Planning
Creativity is not an add-on or extra for when the ‘real work’ is finished. Creativity is essential for deep learning. In this session, participants bring present a lesson they feel needs a lift. We discuss the elements of a creative lesson plan, and then workshop each other's lessons. Participants practice Creative Problem Solving principles and strategies for lesson planning and life.
Activated Storytelling for Transformational Learning
Story is a powerful tool for learning. Educators use stories creatively to inspire and transform. Discover how a teacher in Iowa encouraged millions to make a difference through creativity & bravery. Learn about inspiring teachers, ed-tech tools, and using Peter H. Reynolds’ books for purpose-based learning, growth mindset, and social change.
Our PD engagements can be supported by individual teacher online training in:
The Creative Educator Certification Program
self-paced • 13 hours online • 52 hours in the classroom
Creativity is one of today's most important skills. This year-long, self-paced program equips teachers with the knowledge and tools to prioritize creativity in the classroom. Participants complete assignments and gain certification, enabling them to teach creatively and foster their students' creative spirit. The online platform provides videos and reading materials, while teachers apply concepts, strategies, and tools alongside their regular classroom activities. Student Guidebook for creative problem solving included.
Educators that satisfactorily complete all required activities/assignments receive a certificate of completion, a digital badge, and become Certified Creative Educators through FableVision/Reynolds Center.
Expectation: 13 hours on the platform - 52 hours in the classroom (including 20 hours for Student Guidebook)
Hands-On Workshops
Make Me A Pizza: Computational Thinking & Game-Based Learning with Zoombinis
The world needs computational thinkers - those who solve problems using logic. Zoombinis, a researched-based logic game, teaches computational thinking through challenging puzzles. Educators in this workshop will play the game and learn how to turn implicit learning into explicit knowledge for students. The little blue Zoombinis will stick with you on the path to becoming effective problem solvers.
Paper Prototyping Bootcamp for STEAM-Powered Learning
Want to introduce students to digital fabrication and STEAM in your classroom or library? This workshop provides hands-on opportunities for getting comfortable with FabMaker Studio, an online digital design and fabrication tool. Participants experience the benefits of rapid paper prototyping , which allows for quick cycles of testing and iterative design enhancements - especially helpful within limited class periods. Explore research-based best practices, appropriate to get all students (grades 1-6) designing and creating.
