Weekly Event: Early Risers Storytime
Early Risers Storytime meets every Saturday morning at TLC Studios, 390 Washington St. in Dedham, MA. Bring your little ones to enjoy engaging storybook readings, movement, singing, music and creative art extension activities. These events are usually hosted by Kiersten Case, a local music educator, and children’s performer, who also happens to be a neurodivergent adult with special sensitivity to children who learn differently. Grown up kids are encouraged to get a coffee, hot chocolate and treats from The Blue Bunny/Mocha Java around the corner.
When: Every Saturday, 8-9 a.m.

Educator Workshop: Conscious Facilitation 101
This workshop provides educators with practical tools and strategies to navigate complex group dynamics in high-pressure or emotionally charged situations. Using interactive activities and education-focused case studies, participants will explore techniques for fostering psychological safety, building trust, and addressing conflict with empathy and clarity.
Whether facilitating classroom discussions, staff meetings, or restorative practices, this session equips you to create supportive environments that encourage meaningful collaboration, open dialogue, and lasting growth.

Educator Workshop: Podcasting with Students: Why Podcasting?
Podcasting with Students is an engaging and interactive class for K-12 educators who want to start podcasting in their classroom but have no idea how to begin. During the two-hour workshop, participants will gain an understanding of how podcasting supports the work teachers are already doing with students. Podcasting builds skills such as writing, fluency, communication, and collaboration in a fun way. If you’re a teacher who is curious about how to incorporate podcasting into your school day, this class is for you. Massachusetts educators will receive a certificate for 2 hours of PDP after attending the workshop.
When: Saturday, May 3, from 10:30- 12:30 p.m.

Educator Workshop: 3D Printing and Design in the Classroom
Join us as we equip you with the tools and inspiration to empower your students to become the innovators of tomorrow! In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn the why, what, and how of implementing 3D design and printing in your K–12 classroom. We'll explore different ways to integrate 3D printing into your lessons and dive into the basics of CAD design using Tinkercad as you create your own 3D-printable objects. We'll also tackle the challenges of classroom management for 3D printing, sharing strategies to help you succeed. We can’t wait to see what you’ll create!

Educator Workshop: Creating Critical Consumers Through Digital Literacy
Deep fakes, social media and chatbots. Our students are living in an age with instant access to answers, yet they are drowning in misinformation. Explore how we can create critical consumers in our schools in order to ensure that they are pulling the truth out of the fake, biased and filtered. Critical consumers are simply people who think critically about the information they are given. This workshop, led by Massachusetts educator Jessica Garbowski, explores the prevalence of fake news and bias. Participants will analyze the role of online sources, AI and algorithms in information access. Attendees will receive sample lessons and activities designed to equip students with the skills to critically evaluate information, combat bias, and determine credibility.

Educator Workshop: Developing a Growth Mindset in Your Classroom
Join us for an engaging session that will equip you with tools to empower students to think critically, embrace challenges, and develop a mindset for lifelong learning!
In today’s ever-evolving educational landscape, fostering a growth mindset and strengthening critical thinking skills are essential for student success. Join local educator Steven Cerce for an interactive workshop which explores how the 8 Standards for Mathematical Practice provide a structured framework to support diverse learners across all subject areas.
Participants will engage in hands-on activities and discussions that bridge the gap between mathematical reasoning and real-world problem-solving strategies. For example, the standard "Make Sense of Problems and Persevere in Solving Them" will be connected to the computer engineering practice of “talk to the duck”, illustrating how problem-solving techniques transcend disciplines.

Student Workshop: Critters and Creatures Sketch Lab
We've ALL got an imagination! But sometimes, the hardest part is getting those creative ideas from our minds onto paper. Whether you're just starting your artistic journey or looking to grow your skills, taking that first step can feel nerve-wracking.
During the Critters and Creatures Sketch Lab workshop, join Joel Gendron, dad to 2 kids, and professional illustrator, to dig deep into our creative brains to see what we discover together. This workshop is designed for students in grades 1-5 with a goal of building confidence in young artists who want to build their skills as an illustrator. This adventure starts with slow, simple, and probably silly sketch challenges. Through a series of fun, simple, and even silly design challenges, participants will explore their creativity in a pressure-free environment.
Whether you're sketching for the first time or looking to refine your abilities, this workshop is a space to experiment, explore, and most importantly—have fun! Come ready to create, laugh, and let your imagination lead the way!

Student Workshop Series: Characters in Clay
Join us for a focus on the importance of character development in storytelling with exposure to sculpture, weighting, and form. This enrichment merges a bit of creative writing with 3-D sculpture and a whole lot of imagination. After learning a bit about what makes a great character, students will craft a character profile and backstory and then bring them to life using wire armatures, foil, and polymer clay. Build one character or a whole cast of them, a backdrop, and props. Final projects will be fired and sent home to paint if desired. There might even be a show to present. This enrichment is taught by children's author, visual artist, Taylor Tyng. Sculpey brand clay, contains no allergens, AP non-toxic / Wire / Foil.
When: The Week of Aug. 11 (5 Classes)

Dedham Art Association Workshop Art Sparks Pop-Up
Dedham Art Association’s Pop-Up Art Activity scheduled for February 22, 2025, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. Artists Carol Bershad and Nan Rumpf will lead the session, using the Art Sparks deck to inspire creative ideas for watercolor, acrylics, and gouache painting. event at TLC Studios & Media Lab in Dedham.
Bring your own water media supplies: watercolors, acrylics, or gouache paints; paper or other substrate; brushes; water container; pencil. Optional assorted art materials: glue stick, collage materials, scissors.
When: Saturday, Feb. 22 from 10:30-12:30 pm
Audience: High school age and above
Cost: $20 per participant
What do I need to bring: Watercolors / acrylics / gouache paints and supplies.

Zoombinis Club: Got to Save them All
Zoombini Isle has been taken over by the evil Bloats and they need your help to find a new home in a distant land, Zoombiniville!
Calling all gamers and problem-solvers, join other students for a morning of collaboration, problem solving, and fun! Use your critical thinking skills by solving puzzles that will send your little blue creatures across sneezing bridges and cooking pizza for trolls.
When: Thursday, Feb. 20, 10-11:30 a.m.
Audience: Students in grades 3-6
Cost: $25/student

Beam Camp Boston Pop-Up!
Join Beam Camp for a free after-school pop up workshop full of skill-building and making cool stuff at The Reynolds Center TLC Studios!
We will be sharing some Beam Camp fun and info while families join us and make mosaic materpieces. Come learn about Beam Camp, get to know more about TLC Studios and make something amazing!
Every participant wil be invited to create a mosaic, and take it home. The process can be messy, so aprons and gloves will be provided. Participants will design their piece, use hot glue to attach it to their frame, grout between the pieces to lock them in, and finally using sponges and water, clean up the piece revealing the final product.
When: Friday, February 7th, 3:30-5:30 p.m.
Audience: Grades 4-12, families, and friends.

Student Workshop: Create a Hidden Message Valentine Card
Join us for a fun, hands-on making session where students will create 5 unique Valentine’s Day cards using watercolor and cardstock. Perfect for students in grades 2-5, this event will guide participants through creating designs to celebrate the season of love. Space is limited to 10 kids, so be sure to sign up early!

Coding for Kids! Educator Workshop: Integrating Computational Thinking into Early Childhood Play
This interactive workshop is designed to equip early childhood educators with the tools and strategies to seamlessly incorporate coding concepts into their students' everyday play experiences. Participants will explore the power of computational thinking and discover how it can enhance problem-solving skills, creativity, and logical reasoning in young children.
Workshop participants are asked to bring a device (computer/tablet).
When: Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025 10-12 p.m.
Audience: This workshop is designed for early childhood educators. Massachusetts educators will receive a certificate of 2 hours toward their PDP credits.

Informational Comics with Jonathan Todd
TLC Studios is excited to welcome Jonathan Todd, author/illustrator of TIMID and 2024 New England Book Award winner, for a six-week course all about comics and cartoons.
Week 6: Informational Comics: Comics are great tools to communicate educational and instructional information, including science, history and how to accomplish certain tasks—such as how to cook a favorite dish. In this workshop, we’ll practice breaking up information and translating it into a fun, comics form, whether it’s a comic about Australian animals or the invention of the telephone.

Biographical Comics with Jonathan Todd
TLC Studios is excited to welcome Jonathan Todd, author/illustrator of TIMID and 2024 New England Book Award winner, for a six-week course all about comics and cartoons.
Week 5: Biographical Comics: I pair off students, and they learn to interview each other to create a one- page comic about the other person’s life. They also learn how to draw likenesses of real people in cartoon/caricature form. Students can later use these skills to create reports of famous and other real people using the comics medium for school or just for fun.

Spark Box: Color-ISH Creations
Spark Box is a creativity toolkit designed to inspire children aged 5 and up to explore their creative potential. Rooted in the concept of "thinking ish," inspired by Peter H. Reynolds' book Ish, this workshop invites children to engage with various ISH prompts. They will draw, paint, and use materials to create imaginative representations of humans, objects, and their surroundings.
For example:
Color-ISH: Kids will mix and create colors based on prompts like, "Can you make the color of a warm summer day?"
Things-ISH: Children will draw an imaginary chair that can tell stories.
Using a variety of materials, participants will craft several ishful creations to take home.
When: Monday, Dec. 30 from 1-2 p.m.

Science of Writing: Writing to Learn
Roll up your sleeves and let’s get writing. The Science of Writing: Writing to Learn is the perfect intervention to layer onto your current curriculum or use as your go-to curriculum.
During this introductory one hour virtual session, get started with this evidence-based program built on the researched foundation of self-regulation strategies and proven metacognitive science (SRSD).
Writing to Learn inspires students to become aware of their strengths and weaknesses and take ownership of their writing. It begins with motivational techniques like positive self-talk, goal setting, and creating a collaborative classroom. Here, peers learn to score each other's work while you model your thinking process as you work through the challenges of planning and writing.

Do you want to make a LEGO snowman?
Bring a winter wonderland to life in this creative hands-on LEGO workshop. Kids will build a LEGO snowman and design a winter scene using FabMaker Studio, a fun digital platform that lets you create 3D paper designs. All materials are provided—just bring your imagination!

Week 4: Making Autobiographical Comics: Graphic memoirs are huge among middle-grade and tween readers. I share my approach to creating them, asking students to reflect upon personally meaningful moments in their lives and think of precise ways to express these memories—and their significance—in comics form.

In this workshop, students will get practice writing and drawing one-, two- three- and four-panel cartoons that will make their reader laugh, think or observe something interesting.

Build Your Own Cardboard Marble Run
Get ready to roll! In this hands-on workshop, kids will design and build their own marble runs entirely out of cardboard and other simple materials. Using problem-solving skills and a dash of creativity, participants will plan ramps, loops, and twists to guide marbles from start to finish. Kids will take home their custom-made marble runs, so the fun keeps going even after the workshop.

Come create your Thanksgiving Electricity Paper Circuit Cards at TLC Studios on Wednesday, Nov. 13, from 3:30-4:30 p.m.
Designed for kids in grades 3-5 this engaging STEM activity has young creators exploring the basics of electricity by crafting their own Thanksgiving cards that light up. Using simple materials like LED lights, copper tape, and batteries, kids will learn how circuits work while decorating festive cards to share with family and friends.

Join Liz Dorgan at TLC Studios on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 3:30-4:30 (ET) and make a SPLASH with Dash.
Take on coding challenges and make your own programs for the Dash robot using Blockly block based coding interface. Programming lets you turn your silliest or most ambitious ideas into reality!
