Deep fakes, social media and chatbots. Our students are living in an age with instant access to answers, yet they are drowning in misinformation. Explore how we can create critical consumers in our schools in order to ensure that they are pulling the truth out of the fake, biased and filtered. Critical consumers are simply people who think critically about the information they are given.
This workshop, led by Massachusetts educator Jessica Garbowski, explores the prevalence of fake news and bias. Participants will analyze the role of online sources, AI and algorithms in information access. Attendees will receive sample lessons and activities designed to equip students with the skills to critically evaluate information, combat bias, and determine credibility. Massachusetts educators will receive a certificate for 1.5 hours of PDP after attending the workshop.
