College Essay Bootcamp

Whether you have an idea, no idea, or a first draft, this two-day workshop will help you get past the knot in your stomach and jump start and/or refine your personal essay for college. 

You will learn:

  • what colleges are looking for in student essays

  • how a college essay is different from an English class essay 

  • how much fun it can be to brainstorm ideas 

  • New and better ways express who you are and what you have to offer

  • How to refine your essay and Improve overall writing skills 

The two day, two hour sessions will be held Tuesday Feb. 18 and Thursday Feb. 20 from 1 to 3 p.m. Participants must register for both sessions.

When: Tuesday, Feb. 18 and Thursday, Feb. 20 from 1-3 p.m.

Audience: high school juniors and seniors

Cost: $75/person

TLC Studios is located at 390 Washington Street in Dedham, Ma. There is easy, free parking at Keystone Lot (10 Eastern Ave.).


About the Instructor: Jan Brogan, an award-winning journalist and novelist, has worked teaching teenagers for almost a decade at Boston University’s Summer Journalism Academy, where she won a Scholastic Gold Medal for teaching. As a volunteer with Pen/New England, she spent three years working with high school seniors on their college essays at the Jeremiah Burke School in Mattapan. She has a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Boston University, and a master’s degree in English from the University of Massachusetts, Boston.
