Whether you have an idea, no idea, or a first draft, this two-day workshop will help you get past the knot in your stomach and jump start and/or refine your personal essay for college.
You will learn:
what colleges are looking for in student essays
how a college essay is different from an English class essay
how much fun it can be to brainstorm ideas
New and better ways express who you are and what you have to offer
How to refine your essay and Improve overall writing skills
The two day, two hour sessions will be held Tuesday Feb. 18 and Thursday Feb. 20 from 1 to 3 p.m. Participants must register for both sessions.

About the Instructor: Jan Brogan, an award-winning journalist and novelist, has worked teaching teenagers for almost a decade at Boston University’s Summer Journalism Academy, where she won a Scholastic Gold Medal for teaching. As a volunteer with Pen/New England, she spent three years working with high school seniors on their college essays at the Jeremiah Burke School in Mattapan. She has a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Boston University, and a master’s degree in English from the University of Massachusetts, Boston.
