ISTE Interactive session - Be You: Building Belonging Through Storytelling
Join Paul Reynolds, CEO FableVision/Reynolds TLC, Jessica Pack, Teacher at James Workman Middle School, Author and Speaker, and Georgia Terlaje, Instructional Coach, Palm Springs Unified School District, for an interactive session at ISTE focused on SEL and storytelling.
The session titled, “Be You: Building Belonging Through Storytelling” will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. (MT) in room 403/4.
Building a sense of belonging anchors students to school and combats chronic absenteeism. Learn how to merge technology, literature, and student creativity to promote social-emotional learning. By harnessing the power of several mentor texts, students will embark on a journey of self-expression and collaboration through moviemaking.
This session aims to provide educators with a powerful blend of strategies to infuse Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) principles into their classrooms through the engaging medium of storytelling. By leveraging the power of moviemaking and mentor texts like "Be You" and "The Best Part of Me," we will explore how this unique approach can enhance student engagement, build belonging, and promote equity in diverse educational contexts.
By the end of this session, attendees will have gained the knowledge and practical experience needed to integrate SEL principles into their classrooms through the use of moviemaking. They will leave with concrete strategies, resources, and a deeper understanding of how storytelling and technology can contribute to student growth and emotional well-being.

Do you want to venture into digital storytelling, but writing isn’t necessarily your thing? No worries! Paul Reynolds will share his story harvesting approach, as well as no-cost tools to produce your own digital audio story in minutes.
On Sunday, June 23 in the Digital StoryTelling Forum, Paul will be harvesting your stories about International Dot Day - a favorite celebration, a moment that inspired a student to make their mark, etc. Paul will demonstrate how to edit these story clips - add music/sound design using a free editing software program.

Imagining Yourself: Exploring Careers in Elementary/Middle School: Hands-on Exploration
Join Jane Reynolds (president, FableVision Learning) and Lori Cooney (Program Director, Inclusive Education and Curriculum Design, ICI at UMass Boston) at the Future of Education Technology Conference in Orlando, Florida on Thursday, Jan. 25 at 2:30 PM – 3:15 PM EST.
Our Creativity to Careers programs are designed to engage students in creative career explorations from elementary school through middle school level to increase high school graduation rates and jobs. Attendees will get hands-on during this elementary/middle school workshop. Research shows that developing your story is key to personal success, so attendees will experience tools to support this in the classroom. Attendees will have an opportunity to explore Future Quest Island, a game-based exploration of careers for elementary students. Finally, attendees will explore middle school CTE programs in animation and engineering. With stories from professionals - engineers connected to the National Academy of Engineering and Animators with backgrounds that include Nickelodeon and Disney - students discover the different aspects of these fields as they tackle projects. Attendees will assume the role of an animator or engineer, as they explore. Both courses are approved Florida’s Department of Education Digital Tools.

Using Zoombinis in Informal Learning Spaces to practice Computational Thinking
Join Andrea Calvin (Vice President, FableVision Learning), Elizabeth Rowe (Senior Researcher, TERC), and David Smith (Instructional Technology Specialist, Orange County Library System) at the Future of Education Technology Conference in Orlando, Florida on Tuesday, Jan. 23 at 2:30 PM – 3:15 PM EST.
The future workforce needs computational thinkers. The best computational thinking learning experiences help participants learn and practice these strategies while building creative skills like persistence, embracing ambiguity, and curiosity. Piloted in informal learning spaces across Massachusetts, Zoombinis Club uses offline, collaborative activities to introduce computational thinking skills and gameplay before participants hop online to play the award-winning and research-based Zoombinis game. Workshop participants will actively engage in two Zoombinis Club activities–Make Your Own Zoombini and Acting out Allergic Cliffs–as well as play the online game . Presenters will share ideas and resources for implementing Zoombinis Club in libraries and other informal programs. One presenter, an instructional technology specialist for Florida’s Orange County Library System, will share his and his staff’s experiences implementing these Zoombinis activities in his library system. During this hands-on workshop, participants will engage in Zoombinis Club activities as they discover how Computational Thinking can, and should be, fun and engaging. Join New York Times best-selling picture book author Peter H. Reynolds (The Dot, The Word Collector, Be You!, Say Something!, Judy Moody) and his twin brother and co-author Paul A. Reynolds (Going Places, Full STEAM Ahead!, Go Green, To The Moon) at the Gaithersburg Library for a fun, inspiring way to start your Sunday!
The Reynolds brothers will share several of their signature “storybooks for all ages” that have inspired millions around the globe to be creative and to make one’s mark on the world. Attendees will also enjoy examples of their acclaimed short, animated films created by their Boston-based educational media company FableVision.
Perfect for families, elementary and middle school students, educators, school leaders and librarians. Book signing to follow the presentation.
