DESIGN 2019 | Not Your Average Conference in Oklahoma

Featured speaker, Paul Reynolds will lead three hands-on sessions on Activated Storytelling at the DESIGN 2019 | Not Your Average Conference in Oklahoma in Tuesday, June 11 from 8-4:30 p.m.

Andrea Calvin will also lead three sessions utilizing FabMaker Studio and iterative design.

Oklahoma A+ Schools signature conference bringing teachers, principals, and art partners together for one transformational event!  With 70 schools in the OKA+ Schools network, educators have a chance to collaborate and innovate at the highest level.

Ventura County STEAM Resource Fair

Paul Reynolds will keynote the Ventura County STEAM Resource Fair on Thursday, May 23 at 3:30 p.m.

VC STEM is a collaborative and interdisciplinary community working to foster the development of tomorrow’s STEM leaders through today's high quality STEM teaching and learning stretching from early learning to career.

Join VC STEM in congratulating the five recipients of VC STEM's prestigious Golden Gear Award by attending this STEAM Resource Fair and VC STEM Convening!

PK- 12 grade educators, after school program educators, expanded learning settings (museums, libraries, and STEM expert organizations), and families are encouraged to attend VC STEM's STEAM Resource Fair and to learn about STEAM resources that you can use at your settings. Partners from our region will join FableVision in providing booths where you can learn about STEAM Resources that you can use in your home or educational setting.

Paul will be sharing stories and digital tools, which he has helped develop to support creativity and self-expression, as well as STEAM/maker education - including an early childhood version of the FabMaker Studio digital design and fabrication STEM software platform for young learners.

Several lucky attendees of the STEAM Resource Fair will walk away with copies of the award-winning books by the Reynolds Brothers - including THE DOT, GOING PLACES, and the STEAM-POWERED ADVENTURES OF SYDNEY & SIMON.

One lucky attendee (formal or informal education or expanded learning settings) will be selected to receive Fab@Maker Studio and a digital cutter! You must be present for the entire STEAM Resource Fair and VC STEM Convening to be eligible for this grant.

The Reynolds Center to Bring FabMaker Studio to DecisionTown Event in DC

Reynolds Center team members Paul Reynolds and Andrea Calvin are excited to join the National Academy of Engineering for DecisionTown on Saturday, April 13 from 10 to 4 p.m. at National Academy of Sciences, 2101 Constitution Avenue Northwest, Washington, DC 20418. During the day come get hands-on with FabMaker Studio as you learn how how the decisions you make every day are influenced by science, engineering, and medicine.

What: Welcome to DecisionTown in the World of Genomics - where your choices matter! Come visit our town to see how the decisions you make every day are influenced by science, engineering, and medicine.

Each stop in our town, more than 17 in all, offers a different activity centered on an issue facing DecisionTown as it plans for the future. Participate in fun, creative, and engaging hands-on activities for kids and adults, including a health-themed food court, an interactive TV station, a courtroom where you can learn about eyewitness identification, a medical center where you can learn about DNA sequencing and personalized health, and much more! Complete several activities and become a DecisionTown Citizen at Town Hall!

Thursday, Oct. 18: Paper Prototyping for STEAM-Powered Learning

On Thursday, Oct. 18, Andrea Calvin from the Reynolds Center will be presenting on Paper Prototyping for STEAM-Powered Learning from 1:30 p.m. - 2:25 p.m. in Suite Red 79.

What: Listen in to learn more about using the Fab@School Maker Studio to create practical, affordable makerspaces using paper, cardstock, and inexpensive digital fabricators. This session provides hands-on opportunities for getting comfortable with easy, paper-based digital design and fabrication software tools. Participants experience the benefits of rapid paper prototyping, which allows for quick cycles of testing and iterative design enhancements - especially helpful within limited class periods. Explore research-based best practices, appropriate to get all students (PreK-12) designing and creating. We encourage participants to bring their devices.

Friday, Oct 19: Activated Storytelling

On Friday, Oct 19, join Paul Reynolds for a session on Activated Storytelling, also at 1:30-2:25 p.m. in Suite Red 77.

What: Story remains one of the most powerful technologies for causing learning. Creative educators are especially adept at leveraging stories for enduring and transformational learning. Come learn about the origins of International Dot Day; how one teacher in Iowa used “The Dot” book by Peter H. Reynolds to encourage over 10 million teachers, librarians, and students in 170 countries to "make their mark" on the world using their creativity & bravery. Attendees will learn about inspiring teachers using Peter H. Reynolds' message books for purpose-based learning, growth mindset, and positive social change. Along with practical free resources to bring back to one's school or library, attendees have a chance to win signed, personalized copies of Reynolds books and prints!

FabMaker Faire at the Boston Maker Faire

Join the FabMaker Faire at the Boston Maker Faire on Saturday, Oct. 6 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m at the Boston Children’s Museum.

Featuring the projects created by the MaSTEM students, join The Reynolds Center's FabMaker Faire at the Boston Maker Faire. Come create with Fab@School Maker Studio, a digital design & prototyping tool that encourages STEAM-powered thinking. While there, makers of all ages can come and be able to walk away with a project they created themselves.

Part science fair, part county fair, and part something entirely new, Boston Maker Faire is an all-ages gathering of creative doers – tech enthusiasts, designers, educators, tinkerers, hobbyists, engineers, science clubs, authors, artists, crafters, students, commercial exhibitors, and more. All of these “makers” come to Maker Faire to show what they create with their bare hands and bold minds, and to share how they do it, why they do it, and what they learn. Maker Faires are community-based learning events that inspire everyone to think creatively and with innovation, and to connect with people and projects in their local community.
